Family Promise of Hudson County Welcomes New Executive Director
Rev. Andrew R. Bennett Joined Family Promise of Hudson
County in Late 2018
Jersey City, NJ – February
8, 2019 – Family Promise of Hudson
County,
a nonprofit providing temporary shelter to homeless families in the community, announced
that Rev. Andrew R. Bennett, Sr. has joined the organization as its new
Executive Director. Andrew began leading the Hudson County affiliate of Family
Promise in December 2018.
Andrew most recently
served as Interim Executive Director of Impact Paterson Ministries, a nonprofit
serving the underemployed and unemployed through job placement. Andrew is also
president of Andrew Bennett Consulting, a leadership development and
professional coaching group he founded.
“We are excited to
welcome Andrew to the organization, replacing Interim Executive Director Tommy
Mergola,” says President of the Family Promise of Hudson County Board of
Trustees, Tiffany Kane. “As the founding Executive Director, I know firsthand
the commitment needed to ensure that our families find homes of their own. With
Andrew’s experience leading nonprofit organizations and work in serving his
community, I am confident he will continue to grow Family Promise of Hudson
County and the work we are able to do.”
As a member of the
clergy for more than 25 years, Andrew cofounded the BridgeHope Community
Development Corporation, an organization ministering to underserved families.
He also served as Chairman of the Urban Enterprise Zone Advisory Board in
Paterson. He previously worked as Director of Passaic County Future Lives
Initiative Program, an alternative to juvenile sentencing organized under the
Passaic County Youth Service Commission.
“In just its first
year, our organization has helped seven families into homes of their own,” says
Rev. Andrew R. Bennett. ‘I am honored to be a part of this family and look
forward to meeting members of our community who have been instrumental in
helping us serve Hudson County.”
Andrew holds a Bachelors of Arts in Theology (B.Th.) from the Jamaica Theological Seminary, and a Masters in Theological Studies (MTS) from Palmer Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He is a member of Evangelical for Social Action and is a former Sider Scholar. He is the current Chairman of the Jamaica Diaspora Day of Prayer and Fasting, and is an Adjunct Professor at Pillar College.
